Hackle is the heart of fly tying — the rooster and hen feathers used to wind a collar on a dry fly, palmer a streamer, or add movement to a soft hackle wet. It's produced almost exclusively for fly tying by a handful of specialty farms whose genetic lines are bred for fiber length, stem suppleness, and barb density.
