Daily Catskill Fly Fishing Report
Beaverkill River, Willowemoc Creek, Delaware River system.
Monday, February 20, 2012
10:44 AM - Updated Mondays and Thursdays (or in the event of drastic changes) during the fall and winter.
River are in good shape, and this warmer weather has if feeling more like early spring than winter. Water temperatures are relatively warm for this time of year and people are catching fish on nymphs, and some are even having luck on dry flies when the conditions are right.
Just a reminder that the general trout season is now closed, so be sure to check the regulations to see which water is still open. The Beaverkill and Willowemoc catch and release water is open year around as well as the lower West Branch and Mainstem of the Delaware River (where is borders with PA). We do fish year around and will post reports for eventful days.
LOCAL CATSKILL STREAM CONDITIONS:
Please refer to the provided USGS links for current flow rates.

Tip of the Week - Small streamers fished slowly or swung and vary your nymph sizes. Try nymphs from size 12 like a stonefly to size 20 representing a midge or small mayfly. We do get hatches in the fall and winter the just tends to be small midges, Blue Wing Olives, and occasionally stoneflies.
The Beaverkill & Willowemoc Rivers - Only the catch and release water is open until next year, that leave you with one section on the Willowemoc and two on the Beaverkill. Don't be dismayed, that is a good deal of water. We are still looking for small Blue Wing Olives (20-24) and midges in the same size range. Vary the size of your nymphs and stick to small streamers (8-14).
The East Branch of the Delaware River - Closed until spring.
The West Branch of the Delaware & Delaware River- Only the lower section of the West Branch and the entire Mainstem are open, it’s when Pennsylvania and New York border each other. The lower West Branch can be great but we would recommend fishing it at 600 or less cfs.
